Time for #GLOC, #SQLSatDallas, #DataSummit18

The next nine days, I’m traveling to three cities for four events. We’ll just call this the 9-3-4 gauntlet of speaker life. I booked this travel as four, one-way flights to get the itinerary
I needed to make the most of my schedule and will have breaks between each event to make sure I don’t kill myself my last two weeks at Delphix.

GLOC

StarEast, InteropITX and GDPR

I’m getting ready to get on a plane between two events today and have been so busy, that there’s been a break in blogging.  That’s right folks, Kellyn has let a few things slide….

Conferences 2017

Last year I’ve been to a few conferences. At some point I thought I need to record some of the sessions to let more people see them as well.
So I took a cheap action camera & recorded several presentations. Video quality is not good (mostly) due to lighting but still is enough to get an idea of how was it back there in a room.
Here’re links to the videos. Enjoy!

Hatem Mahmoud – Memory Access Tracing/Profiling

Jonathan Lewis – Just Don’t Do It

Marcin Przepiorowski – dNFS for DBAs

UKOUG Tech 2017

Its been a couple years since I presented at UKOUG.  After taking last year off to prioritize some projects with Delphix, I’m back to speaking and the event committee was gracious enough to offer a goth girl a couple spots on the schedule this year.

The event is in Birmingham, and although I’ve never been there, I’m told by reports, it’s rather rainy and cold this time of year, so I better prepare, (nothing like people selling you on a location…:))

I have two sessions this year, the first one is on Super Sunday:

Path to Better Presentations

I know you’ve read the title and are thinking, “Great, I’m going to learn how to write better presentations!”  The truth is, it’s about how conferences do call for papers timelines, abstracts, as well as how we manage our content.

Timing Is Everything

Iceland is Awesome….and Colder than Utah

I ended up speaking at two events this last week.  Now if timezones and flights weren’t enough to confuse someone, I was speaking at both an Oracle AND a SQL Server event- yeah, that’s how I roll these days.

Upcoming Events and Speaking Engagements- Fall 2016

My sabbatical from speaking is about to end in another week and it will return with quite the big bang.

Upcoming Events and The Caffeine

So some unknowing fool gave me full access to a fridge of Starbucks caffeinated beverages, which should be against the law in this fine country.  Needless to say, my ability to type approximately 180wpm has offered me the opportunity to catch up and blog about what it’s like almost a month in employed with Delphix.

Hotsos 2016 Recap

I wanted to go to Hotsos Symposium for quite some time, having heard so many great topics from there for years. And every time I was a bit lazy to think about what I can talk about. Apparently I thought that everything I know is well covered elsewhere, so why would I be accepted. Plus all these complexities of budget, getting a visa, travel arrangements, jet lag, and personal matters in between. Last year, when call for papers was still open, I realized that there’s a good chance I can make it to Hotsos in 2016: I had a budget, visa is a doable thing, and most importantly I knew I had a topic to talk about which most likely will not be in competition with other speakers.
